Types of Meditation

The various types of meditation can help you in many different facets of life. They’ll help you get more energy, relax, sleep better at night, focus better, and just generally be a healthier person.

On this page I’ll talk about a few varieties of meditation that you can begin to practice today.

types of meditationThe type of meditation you are probably most familiar with is the kind that involves breathing exercises and body posturing.

This type of meditation usually focuses on you sitting on the ground with you legs crossed and your back straight. Maintaining an upright posture is essential because it will help you perform your breathing exercises easier.

While doing this you’ll probably focus on a particular mantra.

Mantra – “A word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation.”

An example of a person performing a mantra is the person that says over and over again, “I am at peace”. This is a good mantra for those looking to relax themselves.

Relaxation mantras are typically accompanied by deep and slow breaths. This slows down the heart and enables you to calm down easier.

Conversely a person may take quick breaths using their nose to inhale to help make themselves more alert. This can be done whether you are sitting in a meditation pose, but can also be done anywhere else as well.

For instance, you might want to squeeze out an extra hour of work late at night on your computer. In order to help keep you alert you could take time to do some mind awakening breaths.

These types of meditation can work well, but they can be time consuming and the learning curve can sometimes be a bit steep.

Types Of Meditation Using Music

Another popular form of meditation comes through the use of music. Many people use Binaural beats to elicit different responses from their minds.

This type of meditation works through the use of different sound waves that have been proven to activate stimulation in different parts of the brain.

For instance Alpha waves are known to cause aggression and Beta waves are known to help people focus better. When looking to fall asleep, you can load up some Delta waves to help activate the part of your brain that aids in putting you to sleep.

This is one of the types of meditation that you don’t have to spend lots of time learning. All you need are some good tracks and a nice set of head phones to listen to them.

If you’re interested in this type of meditation, you have to take a look at the audio tracks offered by My Mind Shift. They have a wide range of binaural music consisting of Gamma waves, Beta waves, Theta waves, Alpha Waves, and Delta Waves.
